In present-day San Francisco, two neighborhoods, Bayview–Hunters Point and are still shadowed by a painful, inherited rivalry. Dre Carter, a quick-tempered 23-year-old tired of being judged by where he grew up, and , a loyal 24-year-old increasingly unsure about a grudge he never chose, are pulled toward a confrontation that could reignite an old feud. Dre's mother Renee, who has buried too many loved ones, Malik's sister Nia, a community-minded truth-seeker who challenges both sides when they mistake revenge for justice, and neighborhood elder Uncle Ray, who remembers the past and urges the young to question the stories they were told, all fight to stop the next tragedy. Told in a gritty, grounded tone with tense street confrontations, leaving a few rivals dead family drama, and brief-graphic violence, this fictional eight-episode series ends with its central characters choosing to break the cycle.
