True Tales of the Yakuza

Kyoto, 1978. As a nightclub crowd enjoys a glamorous limbo contest, Kiyoshi Narumi slips through the revelers and shoots Kazuo Taoka, the powerful boss of the Yamaguchi-gumi. Taoka survives, but the assassination attempt reignites a bloody gang war. Two months later, Narumi is found dead in the mountains near Kobe. Who killed him, and why? His murder remains unsolved. True Tales of the Yakuza: The Bel Ami Incident recreates this extraordinary true-crime story in a stylized, animated documentary inspired by vintage Japanese crime cinema.
