After Midnight

After Midnight is a hazy neo-noir mystery set in a city that seems to come alive only after dark. A perpetually tired, cigarette-smoking private detective spends his nights drifting between bars, cheap diners, late-night phone calls, and jobs he barely seems interested in solving. When he’s hired to track down a sex worker who disappeared without a trace, he assumes it’ll be another easy paycheck. Instead, every person he questions leads him somewhere stranger: crooked businessmen, aging gangsters, wealthy eccentrics, private parties, diamonds, dead bodies, and people who seem unusually determined to keep him from asking questions. What begins as a simple missing-person case slowly reveals something much larger lurking beneath the city’s glamorous nightlife. The deeper he goes, the less certain he is whether he’s uncovering a conspiracy—or simply wandering into one by accident. And somehow, through all of it, he remains more annoyed about losing sleep than about the people trying to kill him.
