The Red

The Red is a body-horror short following Simon Clarke, a college student whose older sister Jamie is abducted from her home by a man in a police uniform and a faceless red hood. Because the kidnapper was a cop, Simon can't trust the police, so he takes the one piece of evidence—a photo Jamie sent—to a local news station. The station turns out to be a front for the same cult, and Simon is lured into an underground facility: a labyrinth of holding cells, ritual chambers, and victims who've been injected with a glowing red substance that breaks and mutates their bodies into crawling, grotesque creatures. He frees a man named Mike (who deforms into a monster), navigates the horrors, and eventually finds Jamie—only to realize she's already been injected and has become fixated on discovering what's growing inside her rather than escaping. The cult, led by a man revealed to be Senator Davidson (Gregory), performs a transformation ritual: sewn-shut rotting captives are crushed into black sludge that's poured over a willing Jamie, who emerges from a cocoon as a red, latex-skinned entity with solid black eyes—a "new form" that coldly rejects her brother with the line "I don't want it" (mirroring the childhood wound Simon described earlier about their mother). Simon is then drugged, framed as a would-be assassin, and shot dead on live news, with the murder pinned on him. A post-credits scene shows his friends recovering Jamie's dog Jeremy from the street. Thematically it's about agony as a gateway to transcendence, institutional complicity (police and media as cult tools), and the helplessness of a protagonist who does everything right and loses everything anyway.
