Sad Steve's Taxidermy & Ice Cream is a small business documentary set in a Route 47 strip mall, following Steve Palo, a man with a mask-like face, permanent wide smile, and raccoon eyes that seem to hold the weight of the universe, and his relentlessly enthusiastic assistant Sprinkles, whose helmet is covered in candy sprinkles and whose understanding of the job description remains cheerfully approximate. They are accompanied by one of their best creations, the Fundamental Misunderstanding. Combined they operate a dual-service establishment offering both professional taxidermy and hand-crafted ice cream, often from the same equipment. At the center of the operation is the Algorithm Swirli-O-Matic 9000, a machine that extracts memories and crystallizes them into flavors: grief, longing, missed opportunities, things that almost happened. Steve delivers quiet, unhurried monologues about preservation, consumption, and what it means to hold onto something. Sprinkles mixes up the ice cream and the formaldehyde with cheerful frequency and occasional insight. The health department has been notified. The business remains open.
