[static sound] You're listening to Strange Waves on AM 610. I'm Jack Mercer, and wherever you are tonight, whatever reason you're still awake, you're not alone. [gentle music] There's something mystical about the hours between midnight and sunrise. The world gets quieter. People stop pretending. And sometimes, that's when the stories find us. [switch clicks] Hello, caller. You're on Strange Waves. [static sound] Hello? Are you there? Yeah. Yeah, I'm here. What's your name? Eli. Eli Voss. All right, Eli. Where are you calling from tonight? [pen scratches] That's the problem, Jack. I don't know where I am. What do you mean? [sighs] [switch clicks] I mean, I know where I should be. I know the road I was driving. I know the route. But this place I'm sitting in right now, it ain't on any map. What kind of place? I was hauling a load north when the storm hit. Roads were flooding fast. Couldn't see nothing. [thunder rumbles] Then I saw the sign. "Bellwether, five miles." Something about that town sign felt wrong. No people, no dogs, no nothing. Just perfect. [rain pours] Whole town sleeping like it forgot how to wake up. [heart beats] Only light on in Bellwether was that diner. [bell jingles] Whole place frozen like a photograph, Jack. That's when I knew it wasn't the town that was broken, but time itself. [footsteps] At this point, Eli believed he had discovered a town where something had happened, but he was about to learn [camera clicks] something was still happening. [gentle music]
